So Random

SPC No. 5

What makes Le Puzz unique in the puzzle world?

I think if Le Puzz had existed about 50 or 60 years ago we would not stand out quite as much. Something that we aim to do as a puzzle company is bring back the fun and the randomness of some of our favorite vintage puzzles. We are primarily focused on photography for our puzzle images which seems to be more and more of a rarity these days. We are so inspired by the creative direction of puzzles from the 60s / 70s and 80s and we hope to make things that are a love letter to that moment in puzzle history.

What do you think makes ‘So Random’ a standout puzzle in the Le Puzz collection?

One thing that stands out to me about So Random is the playfulness of the scale of the objects featured in the image. You have things that are true to size like an apple and a soccer ball, things that are oversized like the paper clip and the screw and things that are miniature like the refrigerator and the tall stacked sandwich. This playfulness really speaks to the spirit of Le Puzz and also exhibits the range of things we collect.

Is there a story behind choosing this particular design for the puzzle?

So Random is our ode to the thrift store. Alistair is a major collector and thrifter so our studio is constantly filled with new random finds and additions to our prop collection. Instead of picking a set theme, So Random was an exercise in just pulling from what we had on hand around us and making a still life out of seeming random objects. We had originally wanted to name it “Thrift Store” but ended up changing the title because these objects were collected from all over and not just thrift stores.

Is there anything you would like to share about the photoshoot?

A funny thing about this image is that we worked on it together in the studio and it looked completely different. After Michael left for the day, Alistair took down the entire thing and redid it to what we see in the puzzle.

We get asked a lot if things are photoshopped or if our images are AI. While we do use photoshop to help get images crisp or adjust the lighting etc we do not overly use it and we have never and will never use AI for our puzzle images. The stacked assortment of things on So Random was done live in studio, everything is balanced and supported by either itself or another object.

What do you hope puzzlers feel or experience when working on a Le Puzz puzzle?

We always hope that the Le Puzz experience is fun and makes you smile. From opening the box to putting in the last piece, we hope that every step along the way is filled with joy.

Also, do you have anything in specific you would like for me to share with the puzzlers?

We have new puzzles coming out all spring and summer! Check out what’s new at lepuzz.com
