What makes Villager puzzles unique in the puzzle world?
I hope Villager stands out because of the dedication to community. I want to showcase the talents of Canadian women artists, creating puzzles that are both art and hobby.
What do you think makes ‘Sunset Ski’ a standout puzzle in the Villager collection? Or what are your favorite aspects about the ‘Sunset Ski’ puzzle?
I love the colours of this puzzle, soft pastels that feel a bit nostalgic like a vintage travel poster. But what I love most is that Sunset Ski is created by Maude Gervais, an illustrator from Quebec City. By choosing a Villager puzzle, you're supporting a real artist and helping her make a living doing what she loves.
Is there a story behind choosing this particular artwork for the puzzle?
I've been experimenting with different artists' styles over a few collections of puzzles. What I find resonates most is when there is a connection for the artists to a place they love. The most popular puzzles celebrate the beauty of Canada.
Is there anything you would like to share about working with the artist?
I fell in love with Maude's art as soon as I saw it and knew we need to work together to make a puzzle. Her style is beautiful and clean and I think it works really well as a puzzle. It's also so beautiful that you could frame it when you're done. We actually have 2 of Maude's pieces in the current collection. She also created the 1000 piece puzzle Sunrise Paddle.
What do you hope puzzlers feel or experience when working on a Villager puzzle? My hope is for people to rediscover a love for hobbies and doing something with their hands. We spend so much time with screens these days and I think there's some magic in finding moments of calm.
